The Great Pictons Bake Sale

The staff at leading and award winning regional law firm Pictons put their best bakes forward and hosted an office bake sale on November 2nd in aid of Carers MK, an independent charity and a company limited by guarantee, established in 2006 to support unpaid, family Carers in the Milton Keynes area. Carers MK is part of the Carers Trust Network, which has 141 Carers Centres around the UK and are affiliated to Carers UK.

Pictons, who sold each slice of cake or cupcake for £1, were joined by three judges from Hart’s Food and Events, a top class catering company based in Leighton Buzzard who provide delicious refreshments for all kinds of events, from intimate private parties to product launches, canapé receptions, large corporate events and weddings.

Colin Hart, Brian Woodbridge and David Nourse from Harts had the onerous task of having to sample a wide range of sumptuous baked offerings. They then had to choose winners for three different categories: Presentation, Taste and Technique with an overall triumphant winner as Baker of the Day.

Family Law specialist Will Roberts-Phelps came first for Presentation, having baked a stunning banana and salty caramel cake. For Taste it was Marketing Manager and Pictons’ Associate Charlie Beattie, whose oreo and ferrero rocher cupcakes were absolutely delicious.

The Technical prize was scooped by legal assistant Kamila Dyszko whose apple crumble pie wowed the judges and proved to be the judges’ favourite as Kamila won a £25 shopping voucher as the overall winner.

Fundraiser Martine Frith from Carers MK joined the company for the morning with some car raffle tickets and sold £30 worth of tickets, some of which were bought by the other businesses located in Moorgate House where Pictons are based, including Handelsbanken and Macintyre Hudson who were also tempted by the bake sale produce.

Marketing assistant Ranga Nasho and his colleague Linsey Collacott had previously taken part in the 5k Big Fun run in support of Carers MK at Willen Lake. In total, the Pictons Great Bake Sale and the fun run raised a much needed £151.50 for the charity.

Colin Hart from Hart’s Food and Events said “We were delighted to be invited by Pictons in MK to be the judges for their Great Bake Sale. The standard was so high it was really hard to judge which ones were the best. Needless to say we had to eat quite a lot of cakes to be really sure we were making the right decisions. It was unanimous that Kamila’s apple crumble was the overall winner but really everyone deserved a prize.”

Martine Frith Fundraiser at Carers MK says “We are so appreciative of companies like Pictons who make such a generous effort on our behalf to help us to raise money for the vitally important work that we do. I was delighted to visit Pictons office with some raffle tickets on the day of the bake sale as it gave me the opportunity to sample some of the delights that people had baked.”

Sukh Saini, Managing Partner of Pictons says “We encourage everyone in our three offices to be part of the local community and support good causes throughout Bucks, Beds and Herts. Carers do an amazing job and make many sacrifices, so I am very pleased that our MK office chose Carers MK as the beneficiaries of their recent fundraising. Unfortunately I was in another of our offices that day so missed out on all those fantastic cakes!”
